Using Cult Control Tactics in Internet Marketing

;Heavily Inspired and Based on JK Ellis ” 10 Ways to Build a Cult Like Following”

The First Time I laid Eyes on the Book ” Cult Control “, I knew it would Work Brilliantly in an Internet Marketing Context.

There is One Thing That Most Marketers and People simply don’t realize yet.

Marketing Principles have remained the same and will always remain the same. Marketing Techniques are Constantly Changing.

Yes, Its True. The Principles behind why they work always have, is and always will be the Same. And Now you’re One of the Blessed Few who do Realize It . The Techniques Keep changing but the reason why they work don’t. But that’s simply another Lesson for Another Time.

These Tactics Work Brilliantly both Online and Offline ( Where most of our problems are ;-  ). The purpose this post serves is to tell you how to get people to want your attention and wisdom. In Other Words , more Readers, Customers, Subscribers, Money , Imparting Knowledge More Efficiently , Countless Such Advantages. Positioning Yourself as Leader or Maven or Guru brings with Ridiculous Amount of Advantages. It is a Very Good Idea.

Ten Ways to Build a Cult Like Following

In the course of the Next nine days ( weekends included ) , Nine more Tactics to Build a Cult Like Following are going to be Discussed . Without further Ado.

Tactic One – Initiation Vs. Instruction

Most Blogs and Sites around are Teaching Via Instruction. Most Lectures you’ve been to , teach via Instruction. Even I am guilty of this method most of the Time on the Internet. It didn’t occur to me until I revisited some of My favourite Books. The Number of Ideas and Flaws that came Crashing into My Brain made me go Nuts . I try not to do this Offline. Quite honestly teaching via initiation is the only method I even consider in the Real World.

For Example . Instead of Boring People with Theory , You could begin by having them make a simpler version. Anything You think the Audience can Handle quite easily. While making this ridiculously simple version , they would be using the various principles that they are seeking to Learn. It doesn’t have to be the most technical Application but an application none the less. If you can remember a time you learned something via this method you would no doubt recall it quite fondly. It is lots of fun to see something come alive in front of You this Soon.

Yes , You Guessed it. Teaching Via Initiation is about creating an experience that makes the learning personal and visceral to the Student or Reader or Potential Buyer as the Case may be.

Example -

Remember the 1984 Movie ” The Karate Kid “. On one hand you have the macho western karate instructor who taught his students via a skill ‘n’ drill process. On the Other Hand you have the character played by Pat Morito who says that he will teach Ralph Macchios ‘ character Karate in exchange for doing chores. But the chores must be done in a certain way ” This way Wax On. This way Wax Off. ” Only later does the young hero find out that there was a method to his Instructor’s Madness. Teaching via Initiation Makes a Lot of Sense Now Doesn’t it . Infact the Tactic One is briliantly used in this example.

There are many things You could simply explain to someone and they would understand intellectually understand but would’nt ” get it “ as an Insight. They would see it see it as Information. The result is that they might apply it or they might not.

Teaching by Initiation means quite simply Holding Back on telling someone what they want to know and instead providing an Experience where they get it on their own.

The Subjective Experience of the Reader is the lesson is much more valuable because -

  1. They had to Work for it.
  2. It is felt more Personally.

That brings Us to the End of Tactic One.

Find a way to apply what you ‘ve learned immediately. Trust me You already have ridiculous number of opportunities to apply it. Even trying to apply it in the smallest way is more than enough. Example.  A co worker asks your help on using a program, finding a file etc.

Either Way You Now Know Tactic One . Congratulations.
